At the begging of Chapter 6, Lenina is considering whether she really wants to go with Bernard to New Mexico, where they will visit the Savage Reservation.
As Bernard and Lenina are flying over the English Channel he tells Lenina to look out into the channel, to which Lenina replies crying, “It’s horrible, its horrible.”
Bernard begins to talk about the system of his Brave New World and how they are all controlled, which makes Lenina very uncomfortable. After Lenina insists he stop talking about, “odd things.”
Bernard gives in and they fly back to Amsterdam where Bernard takes some, and they then have sexual relations.
As Bernard goes into the director’s office for signatory permission to travel to the reservation in New Mexico, after the director initials his paper and begins to reflect on the horrible ordeal he went trough when he traveled to the savage reservation, the director feels anger that Bernard heard his story and he then threatens Bernard with banishment to Ireland.
It is amazing what happens here because the directer is actually exposing himself as a scared, sad, and regretful human being which actually makes him vulnerable, in a society such as Brave New World.
After hearing this story from the director, Bernard all of a sudden feels bravery and he is some how free after this ordeal, he then doesn’t care what others think of him.
Bernard and Lenina do end up going to New Mexico, where they stay in a hotel, and then to the reservation.
At the reservation the warden is actually an Alpha minus and he tells them that at the reservation the people are actually normal humans, they marry each other, and they also have natural children. They practice religion and speak dead languages.
They are then taken to the reservation where they are to spend their time at a rest-house were a savage young Indian will be their guide to the pueblos.
